Accident Injuries Claims with AnimalsThe animal kingdom can present many dangers to humans even as we go about our daily lives, with some areas of the world more dangerous than others.
Take Australia for example, which hosts its fair share of dangerous creatures such as snakes, sharks and of course crocodiles.
Some people are their own worst enemy though as they dare to invade these creature's territory by accident or design.
One woman had a very lucky escape in July 2009 when she drove her vehicle down a wrong turn and straight in to crocodile infested river 185 miles east of Darwin.
A police spokeswoman told the AAP news agency: "She managed to get out of the car once she realised she had gone the wrong way and her car was going to sink".
Police officers found the vehicle was surrounded by deadly saltwater crocodiles as they went to retrieve it.
Presumably satellite navigation systems aren't quite sophisticated enough to detect crocodiles, but one would have to guess there are signs on the roads pointing out the dangers.
Accidents involving these creatures don't happen as often as many would like us to believe, but when they do they can have some serious consequences.
Up to the time of this accident two people have already been killed in Australia during 2009 from attacks by saltwater crocodiles, including a five year old boy.
In 2004 a camper had a close call with a crocodile in Queensland when a 60 year old lady saved him from the jaws of the reptile.
The man had been dragged from his tent towards the river when the woman jumped on the crocodile's back, which fortunately encouraged the animal to let go of the man.
Both the man and woman sustained injuries but had an amazing escape, in what was in her case an extraordinary act of heroism.
Queensland flying doctor Stephen Penberthy praised the bravery of the woman, but pointed out how careful people have to be when in crocodile territory saying: "If I was camping, I'd be up a tree."
Australians and television viewers around the world will have fond memories of the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, who was well known for handling these massive reptiles on his TV shows.
Many were amazed how he avoided getting hurt or even killed by the crocodiles and other reptiles he used to talk so enthusiastically about.
Tragically his life was ended in a terrible accident, though it was not to be the crocodiles that got him. Irwin was killed by the barb of a stingray as he was filming some shallow water shots at the Great Barrier Reef.
The cameraman filming for Irwin at the time was Ben Cropp, who felt Irwin had accidentally boxed the stingray in.
Feeling threatened the animal twisted and threw up its barb, puncturing Irwin in the chest, which Cropp described as "a one in a million thing."
It goes to show how vulnerable we all are when surrounded by dangerous animals, as accidents are waiting to happen.
